There is currently one type of memberships accorded by SMU Alumni Association.

7% GST CHARGES EFFECTIVE AS OF 1ST MARCH 2019

1. Is this GST amendment effective 1st March 2019, considered as an abolishment of GST?
With this announcement, it is an implementation of GST standard rate from 0% to 7% effective 1st March 2019.

2. Is the implementation of GST only for over-the-counter transactions?
No, the implementation of GST applies to all transactions.

3. What if I transacted before 1st March 2019, will GST 7% still be applicable?
No.

2. How do I apply for/renew my membership in person, our SMUAA Office?

You can apply for membership at the SMUAA Membership Office in The ALcove, our Alumni Space, on Wednesdays (excluding public holidays), between 2pm to 6pm.

  • 5. What are the photograph submission requirements for the membership card?

    (a) Online applications:
    Please upload a softcopy of your passport sized photo to the online application form with the file named as Name_DateOfApplication.
    Photograph requirement: JPEG format

    OR

    (b) Hard copy applications:
    Email your photograph with the file named as Name_DateOfApplication within 24 hours to hello@smuaa.org.sg. Kindly name the email subject line as "Photo submission_(Name)_(Date of application)"

    The "NO PHOTO" option will be used by default if there is no photograph submission within 24 hours of application.


    6. Is the SMUAA membership fee refundable or transferable after I have made payment?

    The SMUAA membership is non-transferable and the fee is non-refundable.

    7. What are the types of memberships that SMUAA offers?

    There is currently one type of memberships accorded by SMUAA.
    1. Ordinary Membership - Applicable for all graduates of SMU


    SMUAA's Ordinary Membership offers a basic plan where members can purchase add-ons according to their needs.
    a) Basic Membership - $60
    b) Basic Membership ($60) with any combination of the following add-ons*

    - Publications: Forbes Digital ($10/year); Forbes Digital & Print Add-on ($60/year)
    *A basic Ordinary Membership is mandatory in order to purchase add-ons.
    Membership Add-ons is available only for Ordinary Members.

    8. What are the privileges of SMUAA Memberships?

    9. What are the privileges of the membership add-ons?

    Membership add-ons are available only to Ordinary Members.
    Available membership add-ons:
    A) Publications (Forbes Digital and/or Print Subscription)

    A) PUBLICATIONS ADD-ON ($10/$60)
    Annual subscription to Forbes Digital at $10, usual price $100, or Forbes Digital and Print at $60, usual price $120.


    10. Can I apply for membership add-ons at a later period after signing up for an Ordinary Membership?

    Applying for add-on privileges at a later period will require you to top up for the additional months that you would be a member for and an additional $5 administrative fee.

    11. What are the cost of SMU ExD modules?

    The cost of each module is dependent on the module available. SMUAA Members will enjoy a 20% discount off selected modules.


    12. How do I utilise the SMU ExD 20% discount?

    During the registration process, check in the box that you are a member with SMUAA. SMU ExD will verify this with us and bill you for the module accordingly. There is no need for a discount code.


    13. Where can I apply for the modules?

    You may visit the link for SMU ExD at https://exd.smu.edu.sg. There is a comprehensive list of modules available for your selection.


    14. When will I receive my membership package?

    Please allow a processing period of 15 working days upon successful application and payment received. An email will be sent out notifying members when the card is ready for collection.

    For example:
    Date of membership application: 5 Oct
    Estimated date to receive membership package: 31 Oct (Upon successful application and payment received)

    Do note that the processing time for peak periods (July, August, October) will be four working weeks due to high volumes of applications.

    15. How do I check the processing status of my membership application?

    Upon application, your membership will take 3 working weeks to process. Should you still wish to check on your status or have any queries, please contact us at hello@smuaa.org.sg or +65 81685981.

    16. Can I request for self-collection of my membership package?

    Yes! You may collect your membership package at the Membership Office at The Alcove.

    17. Can I opt to have my membership package mailed to my address?

    Yes, you may. Mailing is default unless otherwise requested via email.

    SMUAA does not bear any responsibility for any cards that might go missing in the mail. Replacement cards are available at $35 at the member’s cost.

    Please note that the mailing option is available to addresses within Singapore only.


    18. Can I authorise someone else to collect my membership package on my behalf?

    Yes, you can. Please indicate this in the email notifying you of your card collection. You will be required to submit a proxy authorisation form.

    19. What is the validity of my SMUAA membership?

    You can check the expiry date of your membership at the back of your membership card.

    We regret to inform that extension or temporarily freezing of your membership is not allowed.

    20. How do I check the expiry date of my membership?

    The expiry date of your membership is printed at the right corner on the back of your card.
    Your membership will end on the last day of the following year of the month of application.

    For example:
    Date of membership application: 5 Oct 2017
    Membership Expiry: 31 Oct 2018

    Alternatively, you may send in a request to check with SMUAA at hello@smuaa.org.sg.

    21. How will I know when my membership is due for renewal?

    You will receive a reminder email containing a link (1-2 months before your membership expires) prompting you to renew your membership with SMUAA. Alternatively, you can check the expiry date that is printed at the back of your membership card.

    You may reapply online as early as 4 weeks before expiry.

    22. Can I renew my membership before the expiry date?

    This is applicable if you are renewing the same membership plan as the current plan. We will be able to extend the expiry date of the following year to the same period as your last membership.

    If the new membership plan differs from the current plan, the new plan will supercede the old plan. The new membership expiry will also supercede the current expiry date.

    23. How do I get a card replacement if I misplaced my membership card?

    Please select "Card Replacement" on the SMUAA membership application form, or email hello@smuaa.org.sg for the card replacement form. Your new card will be ready in 15 working days.

    Do note that there is a card replacement fee of $35.

    24. Can I change the picture on my existing membership card?

    Yes, you can. Please select “Card Replacement” on the membership application form and submit your new picture to us.

    Do note that there will be a charge of $35 for card replacement.

    25. I am currently a SMU Undergraduate. Will I be eligible to apply for SMUAA Membership?

    Yes, you are eligible. However, we will not be able to process your membership until your "Student" status with SMU has been updated to “Alumni”.

    The status update occurs at the start of every annual quarter. Once updated, SMUAA will proceed with the processing, where you will be updated of the card collection within 15 working days.

    26. Where do I find out more information on the rental of SMU Facilities?

    Existing SMUAA Members enjoy 20% discount on rental of SMU Facilities (for personal use only) ranging from seminar rooms to conference halls.

    27.What are the areas in SMU that my SMUAA Gold Card grants access to??

    1. University Longue at SMU Administration Building, Level 6

    2. Open study areas of the SMU Campus Buildings

    28.What are the areas in SMU that are not accessible by the SMUAA Gold Card?

    The areas in SMU include, but are not exclusive to the following:

    -SMU Connexion

    -The new study spaces such as those on the ground level and basement 1 of the SOE building are not available to SMUAA members.

    -Levels 7 and above in the SMU Administration Building (please sign in with the security on level 1)

    -Library areas secured with electromagnetic lock such as project rooms, PG lounges, quiet area (Level 5), investment studio (Level 3)

    -Group study rooms, seminar rooms, classrooms Areas with the electromagnetic lock

    29. Will SMUAA compensate me for injuries/missing properties while using the SMU Facilities as a current member of the SMUAA?


    SMUAA does not assume responsibilities and claims with respect to any damage to the members’ property or injury which members may suffer when using SMU facilities (including but not limited to the parking and sports facilities). The member fully accepts that he/she is solely responsible for him/herself and his/her properties at all times when on the premises and understand that NO amount of instruction, precaution, and supervision will totally eliminate all risk of serious, catastrophic illness or fatal injury.
