The Executive Committee of the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) is pleased to invite you to SMUAA’s 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Monday, 24th June 2019.

The details of the AGM are as follows: -

Time: 7pm (registration and dinner begins at 6.30pm)

Location: The Alcove, #B1-62, SMU School of Information System

Note: Only active-paid SMUAA members are allowed to vote at the Annual General Meeting

 It is an exciting time to be an SMU Alumni. As the number of graduates increase, so has SMU's standing among employers. SMU has done well across many matrices regarding employability. Not just that, our graduates are increasingly finding themselves occupying positions of leadership across different sectors of the global economy. As the organisation for SMU Alumni, we are in a unique place to benefit from SMU's increasing standing as well as to contribute back to the SMU pot.

We do hope that you will be able to join us as we reflect on the other happenings of SMUAA in the past year, and to share the projected SMUAA goals in the coming year.

Importantly, this year - we would be selecting a new set of fun loving peeps to join the SMUAA Executive Committee! Nomination has started and has since closed on the 2 June 2019, 23:59pm.

Election Timeline:
28 May - 2 June 2019: Submission of Nomination Form & Personal Write Up
4 - 16 June 2019: Campaigning Period
17 - 23 June 2019: Cooling Down Period
24 June 2019: AGM & Elections

As a member of SMUAA, your inputs are valuable to us. We look forward to receiving them before and during the AGM. We also look forward to your attendance at the AGM to get to know you (better).

We are anticipating an informative and interactive evening for all present. We will be serving food and drinks as well. It will also be a good time for you to get to know other fellow alumni.

We would really appreciate your attendance for the AGM. Please RSVP attendance to us in the link here by 23rd June 2019 so that we can cater for  food and drinks.

Should you be unable to attend, we would appreciate if you could send a representative by submitting a proxy form.

Proxy Form
An SMUAA Ordinary Member may have their voting rights for the AGM exercised by one authorised representative (i.e. a proxy) if she/he is unavailable. The duly-nominated proxy will be able to attend, act and vote on your behalf. Please refer to the proxy form to nominate a proxy.

Kindly note that only active-paid SMUAA members are allowed to vote at the Annual General Meeting, pursuant to the SMUAA Constitution.

The upcoming AGM has the following objectives:

  1. Adoption of Meeting minutes of 13th Annual General Meeting held on Friday, 1st June 2018.

  2. Opening speech by President (8th Executive Committee), Deborah Wee

  3. Financials FY2018

  4. Operational Updates FY2018

  5. Strategy and Vision for 2019

  6. Any other business (items to be submitted in accordance with the SMUAA Constitution)

  7. Closing speech by President (8th Executive Committee), Deborah Wee

  8. Election: Nominations and Voting

The AGM is anticipated to last for 1.5 hours.


To ensure we have smooth proceedings, please note that:

  1. Registration starts at 6.30PM

  2. Please remember to bring your SMUAA membership card, which you will need to present to our staff at the registration counter. If you do not have your SMUAA membership card, please bring your NRIC/FIN

  3. Dinner will be served at 6.30pm

Any other business / questions by members

According to Article 12.9 of the SMUAA Constitution, "[a]ny member who wishes to place an item on the agenda of a General Meeting may do so provided he gives notice to the Secretary no less than ten working days before the meeting is due to be held."

As the AGM is fixed on Monday, 24th June 2019, it follows that any member should provide the required notice to me via, setting out the items that she/he would like to be addressed, by no later than Monday, 10th June 2019. The email title shall be in accordance with the following format: "AGM Item – tabled by [insert full name]".

The items may include questions or comments. However, these must be particularised enough so that the Executive Committee may prepare the information required to respond. If the items are not particularised sufficiently, we may exercise our discretion to disallow the question or comment. The same discretion may be exercised against any unnecessarily scandalising or incendiary questions or comments.

If there are any questions or comments you have after the deadline of 10th June 2019 has expired, you may reserve them for the Executive Committee members immediately after the closing of the AGM.
