Why Volunteer?
As an alumnus, you can stay engaged with SMU and give back to your alma mater by volunteering your time and talent. And students welcome the chance to interact with alumni who have gone through the SMU experience.
Giving back by volunteering at SMU can be a way for alumni to say 'thank you' and to 'pay it forward' to the next generation of students. It is a meaningful way to uphold the SMU Spirit.
How many ways are there to give back? More than one. We know that you have special talent and that your time is precious. The university offers many opportunities to fit into your area of interest - as Alumni Mentors, Alumni Ambassadors or Alumni Leaders. No matter which option you choose, our hope is that you will continue to make a difference at SMU.
Get Involved with SMUAA
Become a SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) Executive Committee
The SMUAA is committed to supporting the university's vision to be a premier university and strengthening the ties of the alumni community. Alumni interested in being part of the SMUAA Executive Committee (Exco) are invited to be nominated to the committee at the association's Annual General Meeting.
Alternatively, you can be involved at the sub-committee level to run ongoing projects or new initiatives of the association. Just approach any of the Exco members.
Alumni Groups and Overseas Chapters
Join an alumni group or chapter. Or even start an interest group! Alumni groups and chapters provide opportunities for like-minded individuals to get together and stay in touch.
Special Initiatives
Special initiative volunteers contribute their time and energy generously to organise activities such as networking sessions or class reunions. Networking sessions, social events and class reunions are a great time to meet fellow alumni and renew ties with former classmates.
