SMUAA President’s Message
Dear Fellow Alumni,
Welcome to the 5th edition of Communique, the SMU Alumni Association's (SMUAA) official newsletter. Since our last edition in January, I would like to share some new updates on the alumni front.
In February, the SMUAA awarded its first Alumni Scholarship Fund (ASF) to Nguyen Tue Vy, a second year business student. The endowed scholarship was presented at this year's Patron's Day and we would like to congratulate Vy on her well-deserved award. The ASF award was made possible through the generous donations from earlier Graduating Classes of 2004-2007, and should serve as an encouragement to all alumni to actively support their Alma Mater for a meaningful cause.
Together with the Alumni Relations Office, we jointly organised a "Let's Catch Up @ Raffles Place" informal alumni gathering at Rogues in January. The Friday evening event was a huge success as fellow alumni got to catch up with old friends with food and drinks provided by the Alumni Association. The event drew a crowd of more than 35 alumni and we look forward to organising a similar event in May. Photos of the event can be viewed here.
Our recently concluded SMUAA Membership survey has indicated alumni interests in more Career Development-related initiatives. As part of our efforts to support our alumni in their career advancement, together with the Li Ka Shing Library we have recently made available several CFA Study Guides. These Study Guides are available as a library resource and are useful for alumni currently taking their CFA exams. We will also be looking to organise a CFA Study Group depending on alumni response. If you are interested to be part of a CFA Study Group do write to us at alumni@smu.edu.sg.
Finally, we welcome onboard 3 new members to the SMUAA Ex-co team - Susmit Gupta, Ken Ong, and Millicent Chen (Graduating Class of 2006), who will be playing an active role in boosting the current alumni initiatives. The Alumni Association is always on the lookout for spirited alumni keen to contribute back to SMU, and we encourage interested individuals to contact us.
Our upcoming alumni social events include our mainstay Movie Night (May 2008), where we will be screening the latest Hollywood Blockbuster, and another round of "Let's Catch Up" alumni gathering (June 2008). So do gather your alumni friends and we hope to see you at our next event!
Kind Regards,
Wong Hur Ming
President
