Assoc. Prof. Tsui Kai Chong leaves SMU
Our founding Dean, A/P Tsui Kai Chong, has left SMU
'Parting is such sweet sorrow‘. While SMU has lost a great man, we are heartened that our SMU Alumni Association has just got a wonderful new alumni member!
A/P Tsui, or Kai Chong, as he likes to be called, was involved in the University from its beginning, when he was the first Dean of SMU. Recollections that Alumni members might hold of Kai Chong would be the firm rapport that he established with students, the result of his efforts to get acquainted with the students.
One alumni recalls Kai Chong’s participation in the controversial Student-Faculty Debate, Are SMU students really different?. He draws from this memory of Kai Chong as a man who is sporting and not afraid to express his views.
In honor of Kai Chong’s graduation, and to welcome him as an alumni member, the Alumni Association is organizing a celebration on June 11th from 6pm onwards at Evans Road. All alumni and graduating students are cordially invited.
We look forward to seeing you at this event and welcome your suggestions on how we can make the day more significant. Please do send in your ideas to smuaa@smu.edu.sg, with the subject line “Kai Chong Gathering”. We’re always open to your ideas!
